Long time no speak
Its been a while since my last post, partly due to holidays, but mainly because i've been lazy. Just a coupla things I'd like to comment on.
On Triple M, Sydney will no longer get "The Cage" in the mornings, to be replaced with "The Shebang" instead. I liked The Cage, mainly because of Peter Berner and by contrast, the Shebang can be quite silly most of the time (i never laugh out loud at the Shebang). Bugger. On the up-side, Will Anderson steps into the afternoon "drive" slot, so that should be pretty good. Filling for him until he starts in April, is the other side of ABC's comedic royalty - Chas and Dom from the Chaser.
Today Bush will broadcast his national address to outline his new strategy in Iraq. Hrmm... I wonder if he can spell "strategy" let alone develop one. Anyways, by all accounts its likely to be a "troop surge" with another 20,000 odd troops being deployed. I'm not entirely sure how sending more people in to do exactly the same thing qualifies as a "new" strategy, but I'm sure they know what they're doing (although a coupla thousand dead U.S. servicepeople would probably disagree).
In local politics, nothing much happening at the moment, which is unfortunate. Oh, apparently the mining and nuclear industries say that nuclear power is a good idea in Australia (really!?!). Kevin Rudd seems to be doing quite well at the moment, I love the way Bill Leak draws him as Tin-Tin in his cartoons. Kinda free publicity, I think. Oh - and prepare for the end of the world - the 5th sign of the apocalypse has arrived. The 7.30 Report did a show on Shonky Builders. I was mortified. I nearly smashed my TV.
Seen a coupla oldish movies I was trying to catch up on. Believe it or not, but I'd never seen the Rocky movies. Damn, they are actually quite good! Kudos to Stallone for the writing. Not sure about Rocky V because I've heard bad things, so I might give it a miss. Also, I really, really enjoyed "The Crow". I had expected it to be darker, but it was well acted and well scripted. Still can't pick out the scene where Brandon Lee gets shot (for real), but they may not have put it in the final cut (??).
Anyways people, I'm off to land of the long white cloud for a few weeks, so I'll post again when i'm back.

I think nuclear power is a good idea. Its the only way we'll ever meet the emission standards of Kyoto and one of the major reasons Australia is such a prolific producer of greenhouse gases is the abundance of coal power plants.
We are also sitting on one of the worlds largest stockpiles of uranium. Although a lot of people are getting rich out of the WA mining boom the real way to make money is to produce shit and use the materials you have rather than sell them.
The opposition to nuclear power seems to be really a knee jerk reaction against it somehow being dangerous or more pollutant. done right it should be safer and have less of an impact on the earth - while we try and work out a good way to unfuck ourselves.
